Saving My Hair, the Low Maintenance Way (featuring Lakeshore Dry Goods T-shirt Towels)
You know those random beauty tips you read in a Cosmo that you mark down and promise yourself you will try? But end up never doing? That was how I always felt about alternate hair drying methods.
I totally got what beauty gurus were saying when they shared that the towels we use for our bodies are likely too rough for our gentle hair, especially when wet.
And I get the thought behind the seemingly easy “t-shirt tip” – to use a t-shirt or pillowcase when drying your hair instead.
But every time I tried to put this into practice I found- A) t-shirts are not easy to wrap your hair up in and go about your business while doing your hair and B) pillowcases just aren’t meant to dry hair! So, I’d always end back at my regular ol' hair-breaking towel.
I’ve always been lucky to have luscious, thick hair, but in recent years because of stress, aging (ahh!!!), and processing/coloring, my hair has been thinning. This always makes me super sad, but I just don’t have the motivation to stick with a lot of the hair strengthening hair remedies—just being honest!
That’s why I was so excited to learn about Lakeshore Dry Goods, a Michigan based small business that makes THE softest organic cotton t-shirt towels made especially for your hair. That’s right—the t-shirt tip finally practical and applicable!
First of all, these towels are CUTE and don’t look weird hanging in your bathroom. They’ve got a variety of patterns and colors, which made it hard to even choose the one to get! And, the colors and patterns are limited edition, with new releases throughout the year.
I went for this citron yellow one, as yellow is my current summer fave. Paired with my robe, this little hair towel has totally upgraded my routine.
If you’ve read my other posts, you know how I feel about Mindfulness, and those simple moments of bliss and how they transform your life. Well this towel gives me a spa experience especially on weekends when I have more time to lounge around in it. I’ve totally fallen in love with it! It’s honestly on my list for gifts for all the guys and girls in my life.
So what makes it so great? Well, when I say it’s soft- I mean it—it is SO SOFT! This makes all the difference on your hair. This towel uses soft and absorbent material that uses breakage, frizz, tangles, and dry time. No longer does my hair feel strained or inevitably frizzy from towel drying. This is super important to me as I don’t use a hair dryer.
Next, each towel comes with easy to follow instructions to make it work best. After showering, I take the towel and gently blot extra water in my hair and squeeze my hair in sections to get out the water. I then wrap my hair up (super easy! versus my old towels which would always fall out) for 10-15 minutes (I do a little longer than recommended, which is 5-10 minutes), and then comb my hair out using my wide toothed comb (no brushes!!).
I’ve been using it every day since I got it, and can attest to this working!
Did I mention the cute colors and patterns? It’s also perfect for taking on the go, to the gym, on trips. It’s thin and compact, but super effective.
There are two size options for different hair lengths. I used the ‘Medium’ which is perfect for my hair, which is mid back.
Plus, all towels are made in the USA, in ethical and traceable conditions, of GOTS certified organic cotton. Specifically, the fabric is interlock knit cotton, so it won’t shape/curl at the edges and lose that new/clean towel look and feel.
This is a small, sustainable business (with kind and adorable founders!) that you’ll feel great about supporting.
Pam and Christian Colby began the business with the same tip that I could never fully integrate into my routine- the t-shirt tip. Pam, after stumbling on this tip on a day at the beach, thought, instead of using a t-shirt as a hair towel, why not make a hair towel out of t-shirt material? And born were the Sunrise Bliss towels, definitely the best addition to my shower routine this year!
Plus, they send their towels in a biodegradable cellophane bag that protects the towel in transport and can be used for storage. It also protects the towel from chemicals if you buy it at a salon. They also make their instruction postcards with recycled content, and it is recyclable. The mailer package is also recyclable. They do not include paper receipts to save paper. And, they’ve got goals to switch to a recyclable bag for the towel made with 100% recycled content and a mailer made with recycled content as well.
Could your hair routine use this upgrade? Pam from Lakeshore Dry Goods was kind enough to offer 15% off to my readers who want to give it a shot! Just enter WDW15 at checkout to save- let me know if you try a Lakeshore Dry Goods towel and what you think!
